Canada’s Commitment Towards International Aid Contribution

As the Gross National Income table shows, Canada’s contribution towards international aid is at 0.34% in 2005. This is just below half the percentage contribution recommended by Lester, B. Pearson of 0.7% in 1968 while Canada was still in the grips of the Cold War. This is not much of an achievement especially because a Canadian statesman pioneered the .7% goal and the country is doing well on average, as it has been rated “A” because it falls within the Bank of Canada’s inflation-control target. This means that Canada could do better in terms of contributing toward the international aids fund.

Canada’s Records Comparison with Other Wealthy Nations

Canada fairs averagely compared to the rest of the wealthy nations listed in the international aid contribution list. Out of the 22 countries listed, Canada ranks at position 12 which is at the middle.
